Work by artist Paulo Pereira

Paulo Pereira is a highly refined artist with an almost minimalist geometry, in a play between form and content. The use or adoption of dark rosewood and metallic cuts with sinuous movements that feed a constructive imagination, which twists concave and convex forms and makes their structures define the work itself; sometimes the form is reduced to a line that advances or is inscribed in space. Paulo Pereira's work is inserted in an unlimited perspective, expressing with exquisite craftsmanship in wood, as did the American artist Martin Puryear, winner of the award for best artist at the 20th São Paulo International Biennial, who also sought out the plastic resources of wood in design and Nordic craftsmanship. However, his work brought a new language to sculpture, on the threshold between figuration and abstraction itself, with beautiful constructive effects.
The same thing happens in Pereira's proto-baroque work, an association among many others, from the construction, where the design of the wood dominates the form, to the dark discs, also made of various woods and with subtle undulations in a sinuous and sensual expression. There is also another aspect of double lines, rectangles, elongated cones, curved folds of polished steel as if to encase or interrupt the continuity of the form.
